1.8t jetta no reverse when cold
Hi I have a 2003 Jetta 1.8t with automatic transmission (trip). I have a problem getting it into reverse when the car is cold, it acts as if it was in neutral. I have to let it sit there for awhile and once it warms up a bit It goes into gear, all other gears are fine. After driving it all day it seems to be intermittent but generally goes into reverse. I took it to the dealer and they said that it needs a new trans, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did. I can't afford a new transmission :( . Thanks in advance.

I know this may sound silly, but I cant find where to check the fluid, I looked in the manual and it said that you don't ever check it and it can only be done by a vw tech. Today I got it back and they said that it was code 00300-027 gearbox oil temp sender-g93 and that the only way to fix it is replace the trans, I still think there might be another solution.

ya you pull the drain plug bolt out with the car running on a level serface
if fluid comes out then it is full if not add some through the filler tube (its below the starter) the drain plug has a tube on it that is the highth of the level |

ya should just fill the tranny through the dipstick tube right? I don't work on automatics either sorry

Both the 01M and 9A transmissions are "sealed for life", meaning until the warranty expires. There is no dip stick.

VW drivetrain warranty is 100,000 miles and 10 years, at least here in the States. A friend of mine just got a new transmission from the deal on his 2001 Jetta (2.0 autobox) with 63K on it.
No dipsticks! I though that was just a BMW thing..... ugh! (I stick with manuals, less hassle). |
