03 Jetta wont start when cold...

My girlfriends Jetta wont start when it get down to about freezing...She takes her hair dryer and blows it into the key/ignition area for a few minutes and it starts right up like nothing wrong at all...Is there some sensor in there I should be looking for? Thanks for your help. Robert
