01 Jetta 1.8T common issues?

Im new here and have a 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg ed. with 175,000 miles. I just bought this car and it is pretty nice. There are a few kinks to work out, but all in all I am pleased. I am new with this engine and these vehicles and I was wondering what some very common issues are such as...

1. engine problems, faulty parts, main oil leaking sites, etc?
2. window issues, interior, or suspension?

I am planning on pulling the engine and giving it a really good revamp, so I am hoping to get some response as to what some good things to check that I may miss.

thanks, Zach

Hey Zach!

First of all, CHECK YOU TIMEING BELT! That's a big one, It must of been changed around 100,000 for it to still be running now (eps. the 1.8t) but it may be due again soon. Interior; center console armrest, glove box latch, window regulators.

Not sure what engine you have. I had a coolent flange problem, expensive to fx at dealer but did it my self for just the 30$ part and SAVED$$. The dipstick tube will need to be replaced once or twice.

Jetta's have there own set of "unuiqe" problems such as there electrical system, emissions and MAF. The weirdet stuff can go wrong but lucky with a little help from google you can find a well documented how-to on just about anything you need to do or want to do. Fixing these issues yourself is not that hard on these cars and again, you can save big.

Long live the Jetta.
