So im new to this forum and new to working on volkwagens so please bare with me. My ole lady has a 06 jetta TDI 1.9L. This morning we went out for breakfast and heard a really funny noise after I turned the ignition off. Almost like a grinding sound under the hood. When I got home, we checked it out again, when the ign is turned off after the car has been started, the grinding noise would sound off for about 2 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, then sound off again for 2 seconds and thats it. It also did the same thing when the key was turned over to start(not turning the engine over just like to play the radio without the car being started) I pin pointed as to where the noise was coming from and looked up the part on a part breakdown. It is the turbo shut-off valve.
I have a few questions.
- Is there any way that I can test this part to see if its good or bad?
-Can I change this part if need be? meaning, does a new one need to be programmed in any way?
- Is this my problem and if so, what else would I need to replace if anything?
-can the car be driven without causing any further damage?

The car has 75k on it and has been a real nightmare ever since we got it.
any help would be greatly appreciated, The dealership wants $90 just to tell me what it is.
