sugjestions...

I own a '97 Gti with a 4 cyl 2.0, i've considered an engine swap. any one have any sugjestions (besides get a new car) of what i could do to my car with out blowing a ton of money. I love the car i just don't like the small engine.

If you like N/A then swap in a 2002 or above 2.8L VR6 (V6) engine or if you want a turbocharged engine get a 2.0T FSI engine swapped in. Not sure about prices. Ive driven the new GTI while i like the MKIV styling the new turbo 2 liter is sick. The VR6 is also a very torquey engine with insane potential.

instead of an engine swap, why don't you just work on the engine that you currently have. i think the money that you would spend on an engine swap you could just rebuild the engine with new oem or aftermarket parts. how adaptable is a turbo in your engine. I would stay simple, in expensive, and less labor intensive. but thats only my opinion. that unless you can afford to do the engine swap yourself. just my opinion. good luck
