Reliability for a diesel
Hey I sure this will sound like a stupid question, but I am not automotive savvy. I was looking into purchasing a diesel 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS TDI and it had 135,000 miles on it. My question is how long will a typical diesel Jetta last? Also, how much more problematic will it be when it crosses the 100k, 150k, and 200k mile lines? Simply put, would this be a safe and smart buy?

RE: Reliability for a diesel
TDI is an awesome motor. do not worry. just take care of it with regular stuff thats in the owners manual. i hope you buy this, it will last forever if you let it.

RE: Reliability for a diesel
I have a nephew that is a Volkswagen technician & he says they service a TDI that has almost 400,000 miles on it & still runs good.

RE: Reliability for a diesel
Hope this helps. I traded my 2001 Golf TDI @ 320,000 km. NO problems. It required some minor front end work and a new exhaust, first time for both items at the time of trade in. By the way, the car was sold in less than a week.

RE: Reliability for a diesel
I just bought a 2002 GLS TDI with 129,000kms. What type of fuel mileage should I be getting. It's an automatic. AND Should I be bringing it in to VW for the 128km service or leave it until the 136km as I don't know how it's been serviced.?
