Default new engine

Hello there! I'm new to the forum, but have four wonderful years of experience with my 03 gti. Anyway, please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm thinking of doing some serious upgrades, and while I know I should probably get new rods and pistons and whatnot, I'm wondering if I shouldn't just go ahead and get a new engine, like perhaps the 1.8 from the Audi TT (from what I understand, much stronger than my stock 1.8T). Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks!
