Need help putting a value on this car

First off I want to say hello to everyone.

I've been looking around locally for a GTi for a little while now and a local car lot finally got one in. Unfortunately it's not in the best shape. I need a little help figuring out what a fair price would be for it.I'm also looking for a little advice on what to look for. The car is an 02 GTi, 1.8T, 5 speed, black, black cloth interior. It's got 70k miles and overall is in ok shape.

The issues;
It's been lightly modded which makes me wonder how hard it was beat on. It's got a cold air kit, drilled/slotted rotors, aftermarket bypass valve, white gauge overlays and a poorly installed shifter. It had a stereo in it, but the previous owner took it out and the factory head unit is back in the dash but it's not hooked up. The arm rest is loose on the drivers side door panel. It's got a small exhaust leak and also what sounds to be a small boost leak. It was also in an accident in 2002. It was hit in the left front. It runs and drives ok and the body is in decent shape. Just the normal small dings and scratches for a 5 year old car with 70k miles.

They were originally asking $12,900 but after driving it and picking it apart I got them down to $9950, which they claim is Trade-In value. According to Blue Book, the car is worth around $9000. What do you guys think is a fair price for it?

definetly not for 9000, maybe 5000 dollars but then your still just buying other peoples problems with the car.

Thanks guys, I think I'll stay away from it all together. What are the trouble spots I should be aware of on these cars?

make sure the car has not been in an accident, check underneath, in wheel wells, for overspray, that is a sign of being repainted. if it is around 60000 to 80000 miles, check to see if the timing belt and water pump have been replaced or you will end uppaying another 1000 bucks to get it done, or even worst the timing belt will go bad ot the water pump will go bad, which will result in engine damage.
