How long can you expect a 1.8T GTI to last?

How can they last? I saw one today, only bad thing it had were high km's. 225000. A little too much for my taste on a turbocharged engine. I drove it, it runs nice, but again, the km's! The guy's offering a nice price, 3750 is his asking price.

But how long can I expect things to last on this car? He seems to be doing regular maintenance on it.

He doesn't know if the turbo's ever been change. Owner before him changed the timing belt and water pump, he only drove it 14000 km's since he bought it.

what u think?

How long will it last?

This all depends how its been driven and looked after. The 1.8T GTI is the petrol engine which don't last as long as the TDI versions.

Just because someone has fitted a new timing belt and water pump then without seeing the repair bill or the parts bill you can take that with a pinch of salt. If the belt does break then you looking at a load more work and expense.

225,000 km is about 140,000 miles you don't say what year the motor is? The replacement interval for a Golf (83-91) 1.8 GTi 1987-91 Engine code: PB is every 48 months regardless of miles/km.
