Help needed on ECU issue 1995 TDI 1.9 SE

Hi

I am new year and have registered for help to be honest.

I have a Golf TDI 1.9 SE, 1995 which has done 60k miles.

I have been having trouble starting it, the engine turns over but does not fire up. I have taken it to the local VW dealer who services the car and been told it needs a new ECU which will cost with labour over £1,000. Quite a shock! Cant afford it and can't believe a relatively new car could go wrong like that.

Does anyone have any advice, would VW not assist with such a fault even though just out of manufacturers warranty, just dont really know what to do.

Thanks for anyone who has advice

JD

Did they even scanned the ECM for any fault codes??
You should search on ebay for an ECM.

They were '95%' certain it was a wiring issue but over a day later said the ECU needed replacing. I've not given the go ahead yet on ordering one but did not know you could buy such things on ebay, just can imagine they would say they would not be able to work with it, but as I said, i'm clueless on such matters.
