HELP! 2006 TDI Jetta will not start

Our 2006 TDI cut off on my son as he was going down the highway. No noise, etc., just stopped. It acts as if it wants to crank but will not. Mechanic has replaced cam position sensor, crank sensor, evaluated fuel pump, changed fuel filter - still won't start. Now he says it appears there's something broken in the motor and I need to replace or rebuild the motor. As I have no money trees in the back yard, is it really likely possible the motor is gone in an '06 TDI with 130,000 miles?

I would get a second opinion from another mechanic, sounds like you are getting the shaft.
the TDI motors are nearly indestructible.

Well thats a funny description. The engine either turns over or it doesn't?

Do you know the service history of this motor? At 130k the timing belt should have been changed at 80k did the mechanic test for this?

Now if it does crank over and it mechanically sound then it sounds like a lack of fuel problem.

A good TDI forum you should browse http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/ ;)

Fuel Cut-Off Valve/Sensor ? Loss of Power

Driving down the road and the TDI engine losses power or stops running; this sounds familiar. I can't speak for the 2006, but on the pre-2000 TDI models the fuel cut-off valve/sensor failure is often the culprit of sudden loss of power/engine shut-down. This valve/sensor is rather inexpensive to purchase and easy to replace on pre-2000.
