GTI OR TDI? I cannot decide!

Ello!

I just got back from the car dealership where I test drove a 2012 GTI and a TDI. I could get the GTI for a grand less, I love the interior and the honeycomb grille, as well as the suspension. However I cannot ignore the great mileage the TDI gets. Also, the dealer said that the TDI engine 'lasts longer' because its a diesel. My sister however, says that 'you only live once, get the GTI.' haha! I would very much love some guidance/advice/suggestions on this matter. Thank you :D

Well lets face it the general reason for having a TDI is the saving in fuel consumption. That wasn't the reason I had one as fuel con doesn't really bother me its the power it produces. For many years the guys at work have always said get yourself a diesel the saving on fuel is amazing and the road tax. I've never owned a diesel so I thought I would try one out. I love sporty cars so I went for the Golf GTD (170).

Now if you can get a GTI a grand cheaper than a TDI then I wouldn't think that was a new car as the list price of a GTI is greater in the UK. If your main concern is power then go for the GTI if its fuel con the go for the TDI.

You don't say where you live but you can't get the GTD in the States as it doesn't meet the emission regs.

Hi and thanks! I was wondering why the GTD never made it to the states, and now I know. I live in California and I ended up getting the GTI. I couldn't stop thinking about that car, so I had to go back and purchase it. :D Thanks for your help!
