Default Electric motor noise

I have a 2.0litre 170bhp golf on returning home tonight I heard a sound that sounds like an electric motor running on switching the ignition key off the noise stops but on switching back on again the noise comes back on I have pinpointed the noise and it is coming from behind the nearside headlight I cant see any sign of an electric motor of any kind in this vicinity any one got any idea what it may be.TIA Jack

Sorry about that but I am not computer friendly (too old) everything I touch usually results in the computer going wrong, i have typed in details of the car into my signature but it does not come up on my first post.
The bugger has just made a liar out of me

Variant ABBMMNXO Version FM6FM62Q0177GGN1

I would say your engine code is BMM, Golf 2.0 TDI 12/2004> 103Kw (140bhp) as fitted to other models, Caddy/Caddy Maxi/EOS/Golf Plus/Jetta/Touran.

What I would suggest now is get you motor scanned to find any error codes logged in the ecu and post them.
