Default Coolant leak

I have a 2000 GTI VR6. My coolant light came on & when I checked it, it was completely empty. I added coolant, but in less than 1/2 day, it was empty again. What could be the problem?

Well when you fill it up again and you can't see any obvious leak dripping on the floor it could be a few things. So you only have a coolant light not a gauge? If the gauge is going over to hot the impellor has fallen of the water pump or the cylinder head gasket could have blown.

When I put more coolant in, it just leaks straight to the ground. It is completely empty in a few minutes and my coolant light comes back on. The temperature gauge does not change and my car is not overheating. It just smells like burnt coolant.
