Default clueless girl!

i drive a 2003 gti (which is amazingly hot!) i used to take my last car (1969 bug) to the shop to have everything done on it, but it was really cheap. i know it's not going to be cheap with the gti so i'm doing the little stuff myself. i'm a 21 year old girl who knows a little, but not enough. i want to know everything about my car so i've started with the small stuff.
i just bought coolant for my car and i've changed one of my headlightsand now the other one just went out. and now i think i need brake fluid. so i'm trying to figure out all thisstuff on my own.... and it's not working out too well. i got some coolant that the guys at the store told me can mixin with any color. the coolant in my car is currentlya pink color and nobody knows what kind it is.but it's coolant and i guess it's not that big of a deal. it's super confusing trying to figure out theright brands and getting the best stuff.the headlights were slightly a pain and figuring out thekind of oil was also good times. (ialways call up my friend who sold it to me and ask him questions, but i'm tired of asking him stuff)how does brake fluid work?why type should i get? is it ok that i'm just adding in fluids without getting it changed? how much does it normally cost to get an oil/fluid change/check?

love the gti, well i believe the coolant in your car ispentosin g12, thats what i would recomend, i wouldnt take the chance of mixing anything else with it, wouldnt want to risk damaging anything. dot 3 brake fluid is what to get. also prices may vary for fluid changes depending on what you want. oil change is usually 20 to 30 bucks depending where you go and if you want synthetic.
i hope i helped you out, and now your not so clueless anymore.

yeah, definetly do NOT use the "mix with anything" coolant, you need g12 (pentosin) if you use the other stuff it will turn your coolant to gel. you should just go get a shop manual or another book for your year of gti, they have everything in them

The dealership is the only place to get that coolant, I don't trust anywhere else. Grab a Chiltons, or any manul from an Auto Parts Store, everything you need to know is there. If you have any questions, PM me atany time, I'm more than willing to help.

well technically you can get it at auto shops, i've only found one that sells it, its called "pentosin" just make sure it says that on the label.
buy definetly don't trust the guys at auto shops, one guy told me just to use the "mix with anything" stuff which would have totally jacked my engine up

i would call a volkswagen dealership or an auto tech that specializes in european cars and see what they tell you to do. i would think it can be fixed if its caught early.
