Catalytic Converter

Hi All, I live in the San Fernando Valley and if you know the area, you know it's littered with mechanics. Anyway, my post is about the catalytic converter. My 2002 GTi 1.8T needs a new one and when I call around to get quotes, I've heard everything from $250 - $700, which leaves me right where I started... in the dark.

Can anybody shed some light on the matter; what can I expect to pay? what brand should I look for? and if you can recommend a VW mechanic in the SFV, I'd appreciate that as well.

Thanks.

Visit SummitRacing.com .... get the phone number and call em. I also need a CAT for my car, for direct bolt on which is your best bet, $160, and they will ship it right to your door, or go with the universal for $70. I'd go for the direct fit, its a legit CAT and the dealer ship wont reach in your pocket

These MagnaFlow Direct-Fit catalytic converters are designed for easy bolt-on installation for the professional installer. Welding, cutting, and tube-bending equipment are not required. They feature a ribbed body that minimizes expansion and distortion when the converters heat up. The ribs form a channel that protects the cushioning mat from direct exposure to exhaust gases, and they hold the ceramic catalyst in proper alignment. These converters use a monolithic honeycomb catalyst. The ceramic coating is designed for maximum flow and surface area, and the coating method is strictly controlled to maintain exact specifications. An improper coating could result in flow restrictions or an emissions test failure. These converters are designed to exact OE specifications and are available for the most popular vehicle makes and models.
