Cant find the dip stick for tranny fluid

Hi people,

First time here! Maybe someone can help- I cant find where the dip stick is for my 2003 GTI. Its a MT. Help appreciated!

(Oh, Ihave sometimes, grinding gears, and want to at least, check level on gearbox oil)

Welcome to the forum. Attachment 2890

There is no dip stick on the manual gearbox its a level and filler plug about half way up the side of the gearbox. Remove the plug and if oil runs out of the hole then it has enough oil in there. If not top it up with the correct oil grade until it runs out of the hole.

We done know the full details of your car but a 2003-08 Golf GTI uses 75W/80 synthetic gear oil.

OK, thanks Keith. I thought that was enough info, but apparently, not. I will have to get back to you on that when I get the info, soon......

What a mess- to have to pump oil "UP" into gearbox. Is plug on drivers side or passenger? Or front, or rear?

Its hard to say without the engine code as there are different variations and gearboxes.
