92 GTI Steering Rack Swap

Default 92 GTI Steering Rack Swap
Just purchased a used and abused 92 GTI 16V. Along with the A/C being ripped out, the power steering pump is in the spare tire well. It drives OK without the power steering but I am wondering what is going to happen driving it without fluid, and if I were to change to a manual rack what all is involved. (plus a good source for one)
