Where to find body serial number on 88 golf gl?

Hey, im still pretty new, and i need to know the serial number, so i know which ball joints to get. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

VIN number? Should be at the bottom of your windshield on the drivers side. If you can't find it there it should be on a sticker in the spare tire well.
