Speedo quits on bumps?
 

I'm looking at a '96 base modle Golf and amongst other things wrong with the car is that the speedo quits or comes back on when going over bumps! Is this a normal problem for thse cars? How do you fix it? This looks like a fun little beater project but I have to know how fast I'm going!!!

It's more than likely a bad speed sensor or the harness is loose or a short in the wire.
