Shift points for 2011 Golf
I recently purchased a 2011 Golf 2.5 with the 5-speed manual. Very nice car.
I do have one question about the gearing. In the owners manual the shift points are stated "as a rule" 3rd gear at 20 mph, 4th gear at 25 mph and 5th gear at 30 mph. That seems way too soon to shift-lugging territory-in my other car (a Honda Fit)you're not in 5th until over 50 mph. I reealize the Fit has a higher revving engine but that is a huge difference. Does anyone have any informnation on that-is there a recommendation at what rpm to change gears on a flat road? It seems like the gears are taller in the 2011 model(I notice the MPG figures have improved from the 2010) and you're cruising at highway speeds around only 2000 rpm.
Thanks for any help.
