Today i went to go out in my car i unlocked it and noticed nothing lit up on the dash so i tryed starting it i had no ignition or any display on dash it was compleatly dead the car did start up but only for 1-2 secs then cut out.The headlights ,window wipers, and stereo works the battery seems fine i also checked all the fuses thay seem fine and i tryed the spare key but still the same?
Has any1 else had this problem or know what it could be?#

yes, you can do by yourself, I think you can buy a VAS 5054A to test it.

Your battery is probably dead. It will have enough power to unlock the doors, roll down windows, etc but may no have enough "umph" to start the car. If you have voltmeter then see if you have 12 volts DC at the battery terminals. If you have anything below that amount (after trying to start it) then that could be the culprit.

Thats part sounds like an immobilizer problem. You need to check the battery voltage to see it that is sufficient 12.5v min you can give it a charge if you have one. If it still doesn't start disconnect both battery cables and join them together for a few seconds to discharge any capacitors in the system. Connect the leads back up and try again.

The other problem that VW's suffer with is the 109 power relay in the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. A faulty one of those will let you crank the engine but it won't start. I would get a spare on and keep it in the car just in case it does fail one day.

My other suggestion is to join a good TDI forum Myturbodiesel we have this problem coming up quite regularly. There are loads of other useful info for TDI's on there.

Default How did I fix it

It was very strange?
As I said the car was fine when I parked it up the next day it wouldn't start
What I did was disconnect the battery for about 3 mins all the fuses where fine the strange thing was that it still was the same it was getting dark so I thought I would leave it till the next day before trying to fix it.
Anyway the next day I thought rite I will take both me keys out but try the spare key 1st .. I unlocked the car with the spare key and I was shocked to see that the dash lite up and the car started and worked fine and has been ok since but I been useing my spare key to be on the safe side.
So I surpose the answer to your question on how I fixed it was disconnect the battery for about 3 mins leave it overnight and tin the morning use the spare key if you have 1 lol sounds strange but that's what I did.
