mystery L.E.D. draining my battery. help?
Dear All
I have a mysterious L.E.D light which is draining my battery.
The car: VW Golf MkIV 1.6S Auto. Year 2000. Right hand drive.
The light: a red LED positioned to the right of the hazard and demister lights. This light doesn't appear to do anything. My suspicion is it has something to do with the alarm (which doesn't work). The impression is that the alarm is active. It came on recently of its own accord and now it won't go off. Since then my car battery has drained twice. I think the little L.E.D. could drain it because my car can be left unused for a week or so (2000 miles a year).
Does anyone know what it's for or how to turn it off (without just breaking it off).
many thanks
Aldo

RE: mystery L.E.D. draining my battery. help?
First question?
Was there an alarm system in the car for sure? if yes;
I think the drain is caused by the alram itself.
IF YES, find out where the brain for the alarm is. most likely under the steering column, go to the box, if alarm not working then unplug all the wires that are going to brain.
The wires for the LED will probably be two thin wires that go to the LED, disconnecting these will solve the light issue.
Obviously, there could be other factors, but maybe this will help.
Good Luck

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm wondering if I should get the alarm fixed. I believe this can be expensive. Another issue is the the remote central locking doesn't work. I'm thinking this is related to the alarm system. How this relates to the light, I'm not sure.
many thanks again
