Hi, I have just bought a neat Mk2 Golf GTD which has had a lot of work done on it to keep it running.

Having said this the battery light is flashing and when idling with the lights on for example, you can see the lights dimming with the engine.

The battery is reading 7 volts (new battery) and we have narrowed it down to the alternator.

The car still runs about but idles very rough and a 7 volts reading cannot be good!

Has anyone else had a problem like this?

and finding an alternator part number for GSF is proving hard to do! VW quoted me £300!!!!!!

I have been told that the GTD engine is the same as in early Transporters and Caddy's. Is this right??

Your help is much appreciated and when this is fixed I have been looking at turning the boost up (a little )
