MK IV overheating

I have a problem with a MK IV Golf overheating. The car overheats only on the motorway at speeds above 70mph. I'm thinking this could be thermostat related so I'm going to replce that tonight. There are no leaks and flow into and out of the radiator is OK although I have noticed some irregularities with water flowing out of the engine through the thermostat. This pipe has remained cold at times, hence my thermostat thinking. I have read other things about a relay or relays connected tot he fan causing similar problems. Any thoughtsor suggestions much appreciated. Cheers

Kris

I would say that the thermostat is a very good guess. as far as the symptoms go, that would be the most likely, luckily its an easy fix in most cases.
good luck

B4 you replace the thermo, it's a good idea since winter is fast approaching, to do a full coolant flush, you'd be amazed at what sludge and nasty **** comes out of your block. It's always a good thing to do it once a year.
