Mk 1 Golf Cabrio Cutting Out
 

Hi, this is my first VW project and had it almost a week, and bear with me because I'm a complete novice under the bonnet! I've taken it on a couple of short runs and after a while of running the car suddenly looses power and cuts out. It seems to do it more so when driving normally, accelerating gently and going through the gears, it doesn't seem to be when stopping when the revs are low. I've changed the fuel filter, air filter, tidied up the spark plugs that were a bit sooty. I've had to charge the battery once, but think it's not too bad, and seems to start ok every time, but needs a few minutes to warm up before it ticks over ok. Before I had it I think the car has been standing for some time. I would be grateful for any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.
