Help. Oil Light and Beeping
Ive seen a couple of post the same as mine. I was driving my 95 Golf 3 with the 2.0 4 cylinder today and all of a sudden the oil light started blinking and beeping, I pulled over and got some motor oil and put in it. about 10 minutes after driving again, it come on again but there was plenty of oil in it. Someone mentioned that Im not using the right weight of motor oil, is that the only thing it could be? Anyone think it could possibly be the oil pump or something?

RE: Help. Oil Light and Beeping
Could be something mechanical, but most people use oil
that isn't heavy enough weight, depending on where you live .... north in the winter, 10w-30; in the summer 20w-50; in the south 20w-50 all year. |
RE: Help. Oil Light and Beeping
I had the same problem with my 85 gti..did the shotgun approach...change oil/filter...always run 10/40 winter...10/50 summer and have been going with synthetics since new....it runs thicker longer....renew my oil pressure sensors...there are 2 of them....beeping and light no longer an issue....
Have your oil pressure checked...could be due to worn main bearings at the very worse. |
RE: Help. Oil Light and Beeping
Also keep an eye out for oil leakage(major)thru the old pressure sensor valve. You will definately see the huge (sudden) puddle of oil....it will only leak while engine is running....oil leaks between the nylon area where the pin comes out...strangest thing I've seen but it happened...cheap fix

I just picked up a '94 Golf with a 1.8L engine and have the same issue with my oil light flashing & beeping randomly, I could use all the help I can get

Welcome to the forum. Attachment 2691
You need to attach an oil pressure gauge in the oil pressure switch location and see if it has constant oil pressure, 2.0 bar (30 psi) at 2000 rpm. If no oil pressure then you need the pickup pipe in the sump cleaning or the oil pump replacing. You may as well change the oil and filter with the correct grade oil. If you have constant oil pressure then renew the oil pressure switch as they do go faulty. If that doesn't cure the problem then you need to get your motor scanned for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them. https://volkswagenforum.com/forum/ne...gnature-34185/ |
I replaced the switch with the same colour as what was there, light still flashes though not so much beeping now

As I've said.

I've also had the oil changed, i'll have to guess at the engine speed where my car doesn't have a tach
|
Well you can guess 2000 rpm the speed isn't that critical as you can't produce too much oil pressure as its governed by the pressure relief valve.
Do you have any oil pressure in the inserted gauge? |
