Hi folks.

Looking for some advice if I can. My power steering recently decided to stop working (Soon after some floods in the area, related ?). I was pulling out of my driveway when I heard a bit of a clunk, but the car continued to perform as normal to my destination. However when I got back into the car on the return journey, the power steering had gone. When the ignition is turned on there are 3 loud beeps & the red steering wheel light pops up in the dash.

Now we've sent it to VW to be tested, and they say the steering rack needs to be replaced. Trouble is they wanted over €1,000 for that which isn't too easy to part with, with Christmas approaching.

So we sourced a rack from an 07 Golf & nothing has changed after putting it in. Am I just being incredibly unlucky in finding another busted steering rack or is it the case that the computer or some other part has failed ? (The old rack has been tested and is definitely a gonner).

Any advice much appreciated as I don't know where to go with this. If I buy another rack & that doesn't work, I'll be stuck with a pile of steering racks I don't want / need. I'd rather not send it in to VW and give them my months wages in December too.
