Golf Mk5 Dashboard lights don't turn on when key put in, can't start car
 

Ok, so key goes in turn, and nothing, no lights on the dash, radio won't come on, no time displayed, windows, everything goes out. Can't even lock the car using remote.

Half hour later, can unlock the car using remote and starts like normal with clock reset. But every now and again all the dashboard and radio cuts off, dials all to zero for around 2-3 seconds, then all comes back to life (engine will keep running).

Might be unrelated but at idle sometimes headlights flicker and rev increases to 1100 and stays there for a about 10 mins during the drive. Idle returns to 800 after about 10 mins or by restarting engine.

On/off for about a month now, started off once a week, gotten worse, now at a point where it happens every other time I try to start the car. Car battery replaced less than a year ago and tested recently - good condition.

Any ideas/thoughts?
