Default Golf Mk5 - Clutch problem

Hi,

I have recently bought a mk5 Golf (1.9TDi) with 40,000 miles on it. In the week after i bought it I noticed that when i was depressing the clutch, it didn't feel smooth - I've worked out that if I take the car out of gear and depress/release the clutch whilst lightly pressing the gas pedal, the clutch pedal feels rough - it seems like something is rubbing against something closely connected to the clutch pedal. I'm not sure what the problem could be. Are all diesel clutches not smooth when depressed? If not, could anyone give me any advice for things to check/get checked? does anyone else suffer from this? The car is going in for a service on friday - i'll mention this to the mechanics at the garage but don't want to have to pay for them to take the car to bits - expensive.

Mark
