Default Golf '85 MK2 Model Project - Help and Tips wanted!

Hi Forum,

Just got my hands on a mint condition 1985 MK2 Golf that has run approx 80000 Miles. 4 Speed, 1.6 Engine.

The first priority for me is suspension. I intend to stiffen it up properly, so what kind of springs and shocks should i buy? and any thoughts on a swaybar?
I don't know anything about brands or models, so any help will be appriciated

In terms of performance, what should I do?
I am considering hunting down an old VR6 and doing a complete engine and transmission swap, however:
What can I do with my existing 1.6?

Of course, with higher performance i need better brakes. What kind should I buy, and should i go with disc brakes front and back, or is it sufficient with front only?

The plan is to have a casual looking golf that can give a real punch. No major modifications on the exterior, only under the paint!

Please come back to me with thoughts about what I should do and what kind of parts (part manufacturer etc) that I should take into consideration.

Thanks alot,
Best,
Bergamini
