Question Golf 2017 or 2018 - bicycle options ?

Greetings -

Considering downsizing from a CX-5 to a Golf. Looking at the (U.S.) 2017 or 2018 for the 1.8L. Would also consider the GTI, but that's a little spendy.

Dealers have not been helpful regarding whether a hitch receiver can be added. We'd much rather add a hitch-mounted bicycle carrier.
Would welcome success stories or, conversely, lack thereof.

Similarly, success with roof racks? Will they work with the 2017 or 2018? And does the large sunroof prevent/interfere with using a roof rack?

Thanks kindly.
