Default Golf 1.8 Timing MK3 94

Ihave had to have the head off to replace broken exhaust manifold studs and I am having trouble timing the engine. Haynes manual is useless. I have a clear timing mark on the camshaft pully, which I am happy with. The other mark is on the cluctch housing seen through a 1 inch hole with a green moulding surround. I have found the mark on the clutch. How do I line it up? haynes shows a point on the moulding, my engine does not have that. Could the clutch plate be in the wrong position?

ummm is it valve timing or just spark? spark you can turn the distributer. if not there should be marks on both the crank pully and cam pully is there not? let me know if this helps.
