fuel pump relay question

I was wondering if anyone has any info for me on a fuel pump relay .I have a 87 vw golf gl and a week ago my car wouldn't`t start I noticed I couldn't hear the fuel pump .so I went an bought me a relay at autozone and sure enough car started but now when I get to around 60 to 65 mph it stalls like it isn't getting enough gas .The car never done this before I noticed if I slowly press the gas I can get to almost 70 before it stalls but if I put the pedal to the floor it does it right off at 60 mph.
Now I been looking online and noticed some relays say without RPM limiter and I been wondering if this is what is going on because the car runs fine on low end .also I noticed my old relay is much longer then the one I just bought also the old one has a chip inside of it but the new one does not .I also noticed the terminal numbers are the same except for one the smaller terminal has a 13b on the old relay but the new one has a 1 all other terminal numbers are the same .Also my old relay was the original one from Germany but the new one is not.But I was wondering if maybe you guys might know if the RPM limiter could be my problem?

I would have thought the rev limiter on an 87 Golf would have been a spring loaded rotor arm, check it if it is replace it with a standard Bosch rotor arm.

I had to replace the rotor button ,cap and wires last month but it had a standard rotor button on it.also after replacing those I noticed no change in the car other than I had a bit more get up and go.
