does anyone else have a 85 Golf around here?
Hey guys,
I am new here... I recently purchased a wrecked 1985 Volkswagen Golf, standard, base model, 1.8 L... and it's still not running. Have had some issues replacing small parts over the past few months. I finally had it towed to a professional because I have no idea what I am doing and I was out there with a mechanic for hours trying to get it to start again, just found out it's missing the timing belt cover, so I will be able to buy one on Friday. I haven't even driven it once yet and I just wanted to join the community... I have been coming here researching all the different specifications and what not. Just wondering if anyone here has the same type of VW as mine. Thanks -Karly Hardisty

Welcome to the forum Karly.
There are three basic reasons why an engine won't run.
1. Mechanical condition if the timing belt has broken or the new one hasn't been fitted correctly.
2. Insufficient spark to ignite the fuel in a petrol engine or insufficient heat in a diesel engine.
3. Insufficient fuel to be ignited.
