It's time to replace the catalytic converter on my 2002 MKIV Golf! Tired of the engine light on as it's running below efficiency, and it's starting to be a drag on performance. The part, manufactured by Eastern, is about $273 online, much cheaper than the $750 my mechanic says it is. Do you guys know if it's the same converter as the one originally installed in the car? I have been told that otherwise, the engine light might stay on, as the total performance may be judged insufficient by then engine computer.
