blown tranny
 

hey,
i'm looking at buying a 1996 golf with a 1.8l. he wants 650 but it needs a standard tranny. i can get a tranny for it for 400 but it's from a 2L. r they the same tranny? if not, how hard is the swap?

They make 3 different trans for that year. 1 for diesel and 2 for gas your best bet is to pull up the carpet in the hatch and look for a stamping on the upper right side it will tell you your trans code then you can match up the transmissions for the same exact cars.

And as far as the tranny swap its not hard at all you'll just need a second person for about 20 minutes if your really doing it then send me PM if you have any questions b/c i just did a tranny swap last week
