Default big oil leak need help.

Just bought an 87 Golf GT after having my 92 GTI writen off in a rear-ender, choked but happy to have another golf.
I noticed a huge pool of oil under my car while brushing snow off it while warmed up. Opened the hood and right between the oil cooler and the oil temp sensor the oil was pumping out.I bought a new o ring for the seal as i figure that is the problem. The leak is right where there temp senor is mounted on top of the oil cooler. Should I just buy a new oil cooler too? Is this big disassemble? any help would be awesome!

Hey what's up... new to this site, nice to see people reply to you... not really, dicks... anyways I had a similar problem on another car, it could be the sensor it's self. I could be wrong. I didn't understand exactly where you said the leak was at. But look into that, I've had to replace a oil temp. sensor once because it went bad and leaked oil every where.

had a similiar massive oil leak in a 85 gti...leak free.....found out the oil was leaking(while running only)thru the nylon housing and the pin on the oil pressure sensor....renewed the sensor and back to leak free...

parts guy at VW dealer says they fail all the time...

hope this helps
