hey all!!, i have a '06 golf and i am in need of help?

my key remote won't lock, unlock or put the alarm on, its completely not working so i figure the batterys dead or that remotes broke but when i tried my spare still no luck....
plus the sensor lights on both remotes flash when i press a button so i dont think the problem is with the remotes....
