95 golf 3 weird problem
 

Hi - for the past 4 months my 95 golf 3 has been acting strange off & on when cold starting. It does not do this all the time but about once every 2 weeks: turning the ignition key causes the alarm to go off and I have to get out, close the door, and lock & unlock the door to make it stop. Then, turning the ignition key causes the ignition to start & stop repeatedly until I turn it off. This happens for 2 or 3 tries, then it will start normally and run OK for the next week or 2. A couple of times it did the alarm thing when starting hot. Not doing this all the time makes it hard to determine the cause.

[align=left]It has an automatic trans and only 110,000 miles on it and I've maintained it well, and it always behaves when I bring it in for this problem. I'm concerned it will die when I least expect it.

Has anyone had a problem like this, or can give me some clues as what to check ??

Just a way out in the left field guess............
sounds like the igintion switch is on it's way out.
