I have an '88 Golf I'm looking to performance out. I'm looking to put a different engine in it(maybe) and new transmission. I also plan to get a complete suspension upgrade and all. I'm new to running the Volkswagens so I'm looking for any advance on what years will match up for suspension parts and aero dynamic body ground effects. I could use some help as far as performance ideas from engine and transmission combos and bore and stroke depths.

The two biggest ideas I've had brought to me was a performance vr6 and 5 speed transmission or a 1990 Corrado 1.8lt Supercharged engine bored .040 and stroked .083 with a 2.0 crank and cam.

Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
