Exclamation 2006 Golf GL with ENGINE FAILURE @127K miles

Bought VW GOLF GL 2006 for my daughter from 1st owner @70K miles. Had full 100K miles service done. Now have 127K on it and the engine just locked up after parking it.

Had all fluids at proper level - oil and coolant. Mechanic cannot figure out why it locked, cannot crank it. Is offering to replace the engine for $1,750. Why is this happening at this low mileage and having maintained the car well? German quality parts? Anybody else who has run into this issue? PLEASE HELP. Thanks!

First posts normally go in introductions else you could get a free fix and we never see you again!!!

Default Welcome to Volkswagen Forum - Rules & Recommendations

You don't say which engine size and type it is. Without seeing the vehicle its not easy to diagnose. I would check the timing belt hasn't broke, you mechanic should have checked that.

If you've had this Golf from 70k have you had the timing belt changed since?

Please tell us your car spec in your signature

Was a VW Golf 2.0 GL gas engine and yes, timing belt was changed at 110K miles.

Issue has been resolved recently. Took it to another mechanic and he detected it was the starter after all that locked up in the engine. $200 fix instead of multiple thousand $ for engine replacement. Runs as good as new. Won't be going to the first mechanic again

Thanks for your insights!
