2001 Jetta 1.8T accelerator doesn't work! TME
 
Hey guys,

Sorry to make my first post a car diagnostic question but I was hoping someone could help me. I just replaced my ignition coils/spark plugs and my 2001 Jetta Wolfsburg idles GREAT but the accelerator doesn't work at all!

Any idea where I should start? Throttle body? O2 Sensor?

Thanks a lot. I need to get it fixed so I can sell it to the VW dealership here and put that as a down payment on the new 2013 Jetta.

You really need your motor scanning for any error codes that are logged in the ecu. If a VW dealer is having your motor then get them to tow it in and scan it.

Ah, okay. thanks Keith. Thanks for including me in the forum, it looks like a great place.

The cost of towing it and then getting it fixed is something I can't really afford, so I was hoping to diagnose it myself. Ah well!

Hey, I have the results from the scan:

P2133 Throttle/Pedal POS Sens/Switch F circ Hi Input

P2128 Pedal Pos validation Hi Switch 2

P0136 O2 Sensor circuit malfunction (bank1 sensor 2)

Notes-
02 wiring in TAC no lose wires for burn out ECU.

Am I understanding correctly that no throttle response can be any of the following components-
Mass air flow
Throttle body
Throttle position switch
Burned out ECU due to 02 wiring short.

Will engine rpm increases with manipulation of the throttle body manually while operating gas pedal provide any viable information other than ecu not fried?

VAG Error Code: 18565
EOBD II Error Code: P2133

Fault Location:
Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) Sensor/Switch F/Throttle Position (TP) Sensor (G127)/Switch F - High Input

Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) ON.
Reduced Power Output.

Faulty Accelerator Pedal (very unlikely).
Wiring Harness Issue.
Faulty Engine control module (ECM).
O2 Sensor(s).

Possible Solutions:
Inspect and test Wiring harness for Accelerator Pedal, see Repair Manual.
Visually inspect O2 sensors for damage.

Special Notes:
O2 sensor issues can also cause the following DTCs:
16610/P0226 - Throttle Pedal Position Sensor (G79): Implausible Signal.
18560/P2128 - Accelerator Position Sensor 2 (G185): Signal too High.
In some cases, O2 sensors will damage the Engine control module (ECM). Ross Tech suggest to replace O2 sensors before replacing an Engine control module (ECM) for this type of issue.

Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) Triggered on first occurrence.

Heating inoperative.
Wiring.

Oxygen sensor (O2S).

Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) (G39).
Engine control module (ECM).
