1999 Golf GL won't stay on
My check engine light came on last week, diagnostic said it might be an ECT sensor or a bad regulator valve. However, last night when I started my car I heard a popping noise and smoke came out from under my hood a little bit and then my car shut off. Now, when my car turns over, it runs for about 1 second then shuts off except when I try to rev the engine then my RPM's get very high and the engine gets very loud. Some guys at autozone said it might be a wiring issue or a fuel pump. My mother's husband seems to disagree. Any ideas what it might be?
