I have a 97 cabrio with almost 100K miles on it. Sometimes when you start the car the Tachometer and Speedometer wont work. Shut it off, let it sit for a few minutes and it will start back. Has anyone had this happen before? Is there a fix for it?

Can't say this is a fix for your VW, however I had one that
did almost like yours, what I did was remove the speedo and
tach cluster, they work on electrical wiring, then I cleaned
all the connections and then found a ground wire that had
worked loose and was just barely making contact, repaired
the ground at the dash and it worked after that.
