Question about Speedo not working for a 1998 VW Cabrio. Speed Sensor?

My speedo stopped working and the guy at my dads shop said I should buy a new speed sensor and see if that fixes it.

Just asking if anyone has had a issue with their speedo not working and if this fixed it, or if theres something else I can try? I dont want to spend $50 on a part and then have that not fix it.

And also, how to install it? I think its behind the cluster right?

Thanks.

is yours an auto. or manual?? if you have an auto. it should on top of the transmission.
I also have a 98, but is a Jetta with a 2.0L.

I fixed it. It was the speed sensor that was broken :) Easy fix.

Speed sensors are on the gearbox not on the instrument clusters.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

This applies to all of you guys.
