Multiple problems on 98 Cabrio
Hi I'm new.
I have been having transmission problems with my car over the past few months. It has trouble shifting into the proper gear sometimes and will go up to 4000+ rpm going slower speeds like 40 mph. I took it to a mechanic to check the transmission and fluid but they said they couldn't check the fluid so i just took it to a VW dealership in town. They have told me that I need a "resistor wire" for the transmission and that will be $200. The also said my rear brakes need to be replaced for $800 which I have been told is ridiculous. I also need new gaskets which will be around $200 as well. I have some kind of warranty I bought when I purchased the car, but it's through a 3rd party so VW will have to call them to see if anything is covered. I think my gaskets are covered and I don't know about anything else.
Has anyone heard of this wire? The part name is "resistor wire ZVW311100". I am bringing it in for repairs on Friday but I was hoping for maybe a second opinion before then. Thank you for reading
