ok here's a wierd one i was popping main headlight bulbs like every 2 weeks i would have to buy a new one. a couple of days later the other one would go out. I moved to the "whitestars" thinking that they were a better bulb. Same prob. so i went to the reg. stock ones and they seem to last a lot longer but still burn out like three monthes later. still not suitable but they they last longer. Used to work with theater projectors so i am vary **** when replacing and not getting anything on the the bulb when installing. I don't think have an elec. short. But what is wierd is that the 01 cabrio does not shut off its lights. in day time they will still be on until emerg. brake is pulled up then all the lights will cut off if the switch is thrown to semi. unless on full but that is a given any feed back would be koo.

Sounds like the alternator is over charging, have it checked.
