Convertible top won't retract anymore

uh-oh. it's spring and after using it a few times, the roof won't go back. It seems like I might have held the button down too long? I don't know.
I can manually bring the top back and then forward, but the motor doesn't do anything any more.

It's a 2002 Cabrio. Any suggestions what to look at? Is this common?
Is there some kind of regulator, and if you hold the button too long, after the top has already retracted fully, it's a problem?

Thanks for any ideas. I'll get it scanned next week and post.

Welcome to the forum. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1.../VWwelcome.gif

There are many faults why the roof won't open. You need to get your motor scanned for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them.

No fluid

So we've been investigating the reason the convertible top won't retract - the motor runs a little, you can hear the hydraulics wanting to move, but the fluid tank is empty. There is some staining on the metal housing around each hydraulic ram (or whatever its called), but it doesn't look like a lot of fluid leaked.

Does anyone know what kind of fluid should be used for this?
I'll put some in and monitor how it works.

It's strange that it worked for a few months (since I bought it) and then all of a sudden it stopped, and there's no indication of massive leak.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You need to fill the tank , check your owners manual for right type , you may have to look for leek , under back of wheel well .
