Can someone give me some help on how bad a broken distributor, cap and rotor can be? Is there a chance the camshaft is not broken or bent? I've heard that the dizzy is a sacrificial part to save the rest of the engine if it breaks off. Currently its just hanging on by the spark plug wires. I've cleaned up the plastic mess, nothing else seems to be damaged. Just wondering before I take it to the shop. Thanks

Distributor caps don't normally break unless they have been hit by something. I don't know the engine code so I can't tell you how it connects.
